Women’s day with mothers and sisters from Jeevodaya Ashralaya

Though the world celebrated International Women’s day on March 8th in their own way, we still believe that we don’t need a day to showcase our respect for the womanhood. In this juncture Delhi based weekend volunteer group HelpingBrainz thought of lighting lamps in the darkened lives of few mothers and sisters (around 66) from Jeevodaya Ashralaya, Vikas nagar, New Delhi. Jeevodaya is a home for abandoned, destitute and orphaned mothers and sisters, based in West Delhi.

The main idea behind this event was to tell the world that even the abandoned and destitute women has their right towards womanhood, and the society needs to accept them as one among themselves. The daylong event was orchestrated by Shipra Mathur (the young Women Empowerment Leader from Helping Brainz), supported by talk shows by Seema Ji (Seema is an inhabitant at Jeevodaya, who researched and prepared an excellent and informative talk show about ‘women’s day’), #Bharatanatyamperformances by Tishya Laskar, ITL Public School, Dwarka and Sahana Iyer, Indira Ideal School, Dwarka (both are Class 6th students), Musical (instrumental) performances by Tishya, Lunch sponsored by Monika Ghoshand Gopikaa Vaidya (deliciously prepared by Shri Dharamsastha Ayyappa Pooja Samiti, Hastsal, Vikas Puri), Sweets and clothes sponsored by Dipansha [a class 6th inspiration from Kerala School, Vikas Puri (Dipansha also collated clothes during our winter clothes donation drive) and special gifts (bedsheets, slippers and daily use groceries) by VEDMA, Vasundhara Enclave.

eople who volunteered were Ambika P Menon (Managing Trustee,   Helping Brainz), Poulami Laskar, Geeta Sundaram, Monika Ghosh, Sree Lakshmi, Avin Lakhenpal, Arun JohnFatima Zabi, Virendra Kumar, Yedhu Krishna Menon and Murali Menon and volunteers from VEDMA, Vasundhara Enclave. We thank Sister Elizabeth and Sister Ramya for their support.

We are happy that we enlightened and voiced for their womanhood in a bit different manner from the orthodox ways of celebrating the same. It was our 103th dedication towards the community.

Lunch with the Grandpas and Grandmas at SaiSahara Old Age Home

#StraightFromTheHeart

The concept of OLD AGE Homes still gives us a question mark, thinking about the subtle mental condition of a son or a daughter which makes them think of sending their parents (who made them make their first step) to an orphaned state at an Old Age Home. Today’s technological revolution is making more and more old age and shelter homes to come up, because in this money making materialistic world we are forgetting the value of love, being loved and giving it back to the needy.

On behalf of Shraddh or Shraddha (a ritual wherein we honour our great grandparents and beloved) we visited Sai Sahara Old Age Home at Todapur, Rajendra Place and made the grandpas and grandmas stretch their wrinkles, smile at least for a short while. The event was conceptualized and sponsored by Mr.Rajesh Arora (Good Enough NGO) and Orchestrated by Meenakshi Paswan (Old Age Home Projects Leader, HelpingBrainz) and Dr.Shweta Yadav (Volunteer, HelpingBrainz).

It’s better to serve, honour, help and at least love them when their alive rather than calling a function to remember them.

Helping Brainz turns 5!

We’re 5 years old.. Nostalgia, the long five years. Pains, struggles, fights, happiness, achievements and what not : however today we stand as a respectful brand in the society. People trusts us. We showed the public that community service stands more than what we call philanthropy, showing empathy and sympathy and giving donations. Thanks to everyone who stood, is standing and will stand with us. We all believe and trust each other and this positivity makes outreaches happy and that makes us *Helping Brainz*

Today also being my dad’s birthday, I wish to say one line he told me when he came to know about Helping Brainz (after two years of start), *we rise by lifting others*.

Thank you 🙂

Old Age Home Visit by Helping Brainz Meerut

#WithTearsOfHappiness

Imbibing respect for the old age among the youth is one of the key aspect Helping Brainz focuses on. Young Helping Brainz mates from the engineering colleges of Meerut conducted an old age home visit near Shopprix Mall, #Meerut on Father’s day. Well it’s a Helping Brainz culture to celebrate the ‘days’ with the abandoned and orphaned.

Our teammates from Meerut spent an entire day ”stretching the wrinkles”, “cooking food for them”, “sharing and hearing stories” and “making a difference”. A Dental Campaign was orchestrated along with the same.

People who contributed were  @Harshit Gupta, Eklavya Agarwal, Utsav Anand, Mansi Gupta, Prakriti Jain and Satyam Kumar.

Father’s Day Celebrations at SaiSahara Old Age Home

#AnotherMystery

Our grandparents come and stay with us, and we definitely feel the affection. Think about those grandmas and grandpas who really want to be with their grandchildren however are caged within the walls of an old age home, with no one to share and care for them. Well old age homes and the people who cage them are still a mystery!

HelpingBrainz.Org’s Elderly Care team to show its commitment towards the senior citizens of the country and in its mission to improve the lives of the elderly by providing companionship visited Sai Sahara Old Age home located near Rajendra Place metro station.

We together watched a cricket match, shared gossips, had tea, clicked photographs and donated few vegetables. Thanks to Dr.Rajeshwari for this opportunity. People who contributed were Pratee Sudera, Gitanshu Khurana , @Kirti Tikyani, Vanshita Kumar, Parul and Yedhu Krishna Menon .

Visit by REborn Riders to Sai Sahara Old Age Home : Event Facilitated by HelpingBrainz.Org

“Hope and future”, writes the Pope, “presuppose memory. The memory of the elderly gives us the support we need to continue on our path. The future of society … is rooted in the elderly and the young: the latter because they have the strength and youth to carry history forward, and the former because they are the source of living memory. A population that does not take care of the elderly and of children and the young has no future, because it abuses both its memory and its promise”. – Pope Francis

HelpingBrainz.Org’s Old Age Home Visit on Teacher’s Day 5/9/15

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning”. Brad Henry

HelpingBrainz.Org’s Elderly Care Team on September 5th celebrated Teacher’s day with the grandmas and grandpas of Sai Sahara Old Age Home, located in Rajendra Place.

We at HelpingBrainz.Org and our supporting volunteers, were again stunned by the silence in dark; How can a person send their parents/or grandparents to an old age home, cage them between the darkened walls, make them exposed to visitors like us – we were troubled by millions of undefined questions which churned our clueless brains, a feeling of zero gravity surrounded us. Though we were allotted 2 hours by the authorities, we tried our level best to make them smile for a while thereby creating a small orifice of light in the darkened rooms. As an astonishing fact, according to a global survey, Indian youth has become the most vulnerable in sending in their parents to an old age home, given than we hosts or we’re the successors of the world’s oldest civilization which respects elders.

“Let’s together enlighten ourselves, charity begins at home”

Sai Sahara Old Age Home, houses around 14 grandmas and grandpas is located at Dushghara Village in the outskirts of Rajendra Place (around 4 KMs from the Metro Station). The daily activities and routines are taken care Rajeshwari Ma’am (a psychologists) and her colleagues. Image2
